The Pumpkin Project

cover of "The Pumpkin Project" by Karen GoatKeeper

How much do you know about pumpkins? How do you grow a giant pumpkin? Have you ever tried a pumpkin cookie?

This book is a science activity book with lots of investigations about pumpkins: their seeds (How many seeds are in a pumpkin and how do you count them?), their sprouts (Will a seed buried six inches deep grow?), their plants (Do leaves have layers?) and their pumpkins (How much water is in a pumpkin?). These are mostly done with materials obtainable from the market or already in the kitchen.

This book has lots of pencil puzzles and trivia about pumpkins. There are stories about pumpkins exploring how seeds get in a seed packet and meeting people who grow giant pumpkins and more. A recipe section includes soups, breads, cookies, pie, cheesecake and more.

The book is written for upper middle grades to beginning high school, but is adaptable for younger and older students.
